Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs): These Vehicles are not run completely on electricity, rather they use a combination of plug-in charging and petroleum-based fuel. It means that they are not completely dependent upon one source of power, rather based on availability, they have the choice to choose the correct alternative for themselves.

Eco-friendly car: These are not an electric car. Technically also they cannot be called electric cars. The reason is quite simple i.e. these cars cannot be charged using chargers in any charging station. It seems unbelievable right, its because, in these cars, their gasoline-powered internal combustion engines are supplemented with battery power.

Also apart from that like the EVs, these vehicles make use of regenerative braking to recharge their battery.

What is Regenerative Braking?

This regenerative braking technology is something which is used in the Electric vehicles. Speaking about which, this technology is used to generate electricity from the brakes which are applied in our vehicles.

But usually this energy is lost in conventional gas-powered cars, but here in the cases of Electric Vehicles, this unutilized energy is also used to generate electricity. As a result, it helps the cars to keep their charge for a longer period. Again this helps the drivers who use their vehicles to drive in cities where drivers are required to apply more brakes and that too more frequently.

How does Electric Vehicle Work?

Like I have previously mentioned that these All-electric vehicles (AEV), as they are called all-electric, are basically those vehicles that run completely on electricity.

Speaking about the AEV motors, they are purely electric, and they are powered by rechargeable battery packs. And again, the time is taken to recharge the battery depends upon the type of battery used. Like some take as little as 30-40 minutes (via fast charging), or it will take around 12 hours also (when using Level 1 charging).

The typical range of these vehicles is around 60 to 120 miles, while some luxury models have a greater range also around 300 miles.

Comparing the time required by these AEV to charge is quite longer compared to the PHEV, the reason is that AEV is completely electric, so they must have a larger battery than PHEV. A small tip for those smart user is that if you are charging your all-electric car on a regular basis without allowing them their battery to completely run out actually will help you to maintain a higher vehicle range, believe me.

How the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Car Works?

The working of these Plug-in hybrid vehicles is quite different from the All-Electric Vehicles. The reason is quite simple as it has both a battery and a gasoline-powered engine. It helps it to reach cover maximum range as compared to the all-electric cars.

In the Plug-In Hybrid Electric Cars, for covering shorter distance, electricity is used (like 5 to 30 miles), and they automatically switch over to Gasoline Mode to power the internal combustion engine when the distance to be covered large enough.

Considering this, one can easily infer that PHEVs functions like a hybrid electric vehicle. As a result, it is consuming very less fuel and again producing very less emission compared to similar conventional vehicles. So we can say it has the advantages of both the technology, which is making it more viable for the users to use it.

Since this hybrid electric vehicle consumes less fuel and also emit lesser emissions, so it allows the driver to go for longer distances. And the driver has the option to use the other alternative power source once the batteries get over.

How to Charge an Electric Vehicle?

Like we refill our fuel tanks in conventional vehicles. Likewise, the batteries of the electric vehicles need to be charged to use the vehicle. Again the fuel cost is more as compared to the charging of batteries using electricity.

Again there are charging stations present around the cities, and also you can install one at your home. So you don’t have to stand in the queues for filling your gas.
In order to charge your electric vehicle, you need to plug your car into a charger that is connected with the electric grid. There is a term used for these chargers i.e Electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE).
